The Town of Sharon is located in the northwest corner of Schoharie County, about 40 miles west of Albany. Originally named New Dorlach, the town's name was changed in 1797, when Schoharie County was subdivided into six towns. The Town of Sharon has a background of rural and agricultural beginnings and also its venue of elite tourists and hotel proprietors connected with the mineral water spa in the Village of Sharon Springs.
